As a leader in the aerospace industry, we are growing rapidly and have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a Buyer in our Seating Operations - Fairchild business located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Buyer purchases merchandise, materials, components, equipment, and/or services.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Purchases materials, parts, supplies, and equipment following established purchasing policies and procedures.  Optimizes price, delivery, and terms; typically purchases $5-$10 million per year of products and services; purchases complex items where detailed specification is involved
  • Develops specifications and analysis to balance the value of competing bids; guided by established policy and with minimum supervision.  Executes broad assignments usually involving the purchase of important and critical items requiring extensive or specialized knowledge and experience
  • Solicits bids and quotations; reviews and negotiates purchase contacts for major commitments;

            analyzes and evaluates bids to determine optimum value; selects suppliers, issues purchase orders, follows up, and expedites as necessary; evaluates vendor reliability

  • Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate
  • Negotiates contracts where losses, occurring through errors in judgment, would seriously impact company operations
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action
  • Negotiates service contracts and approves extra work claims
  • Conducts value analysis studies
  • Performs other related duties as required

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; and seven plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with MRP system.  
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry, especially aerospace.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of labor market conditions.
  • Well organized with solid judgment; able to multitask and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Desire to identify continuous improvement opportunities and lead projects to make improvements to processes, procedures, etc.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) Structure Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, SAP and JD Edwards MRP system.
