- JOB SUMMARY:*
Reporting to the Supervisor, Engineering the Mechanical Design Engineer will plan and design mechanical equipment and the oversight of the installation, operation and maintenance of aircraft cabin interiors.
Provides support on a project involving multiple cross-functional teams, focusing on delivery of local program work packages, within prescribed time frame from initiation through delivery.
Applies standard techniques involving only minor innovations of methodology to provide solutions to problems involving a limited number of variables.
Communicates effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers, translating technical information
Participates in design reviews throughout each phase of the new product introduction process
Participates in the selection and application of materials and processes appropriate to each design element
Checks engineering packages
Generates and/or revises specifications
Participates in the validation of the product (using such methods as prototyping, test, DFMEA)
Compiles compliance matrix to customer specification requirements
Assists in producing engineering quotes to specifications or customer repair demand
Performs conventional less complex engineering assignments that may involve equipment or product design, testing of materials, preparation of specifications, process studies, or research investigations.
Participates with drafters, technicians, and others to contribute to project completion
Coordinates work with other engineers and operating groups to facilitate participation of various organizational units
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university.
Experience in mechanical systems design in one of the following areas: Plumbing/Tubing, ECS Ducting or Heat Extraction
One (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous 3D CAD experience.
Experience with Catia V5 is highly preferred
Previous experience in the aerospace industry
A good knowledge and demonstrated application of Team Center or other similar PDM software
Effective oral and written communication skills
Good team working skills
The ability to work with a low level of supervision and intervention
Sufficient engineering capability and experience to create effective engineered solutions based on interior design experience of commercial aircraft galleys, crew rests and other related monuments
A working knowledge of the various methods of manufacture to be employed such as:
o Vacuum forming
o Injection molding
o Composite materials
o Trim and finish
A good understanding of manufacturing capabilities and limitations, methods of assembly employed by operations, material selection, protective treatments and best practices for the integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
Previous experience with effective application of tolerances and G D & T
