As a leader in the aerospace industry, we are growing rapidly and have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a Mechanical Buyer/Planner in our Purchasing business located in Medford, NY.
- JOB SUMMARY*
Purchases merchandise, materials, components, equipment, and/or services; performs a variety of production planning activities required to attain production objectives. Assignments are relatively complex and generally involve planning activities for products and/or production processes where the manufacturing process is variable.
Purchases machined and sheet metal components along with materials, parts, supplies, and equipment following established purchasing policies and procedures and optimizes price, delivery, and terms; typically purchases $1-3 million per year; does not become heavily involved in the development of specifications, but the work is more complex than buying off-the-shelf items.
Ability to read and interpret prints.
Investigates and identifies qualified suppliers; issues requests for quotations; may evaluate vendor reliability.
Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
Reviews, approves and issues purchase requisitions; follows up and expedites as necessary.
Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items; estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels.
Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
As required, monitors the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value.
Monitors market trends and conditions.
Plans and issues schedules and materials requirements.
Coordinates activities of Engineering, Production Control, Purchasing and other departments to achieve optimum utilization of facilities in meeting production schedules.
Provides input to management regarding problems such as shortages, design changes, backlogs, and the like.
Performs other related duties as required.
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university.
Minimum 2-years’ related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of formal education, on-the-job training, and/or work and life experience.
