Senior Principle Engineer, Materials and Processes
Summary/Job Description:Responsible for metallic and nonmetallic materials and fabrication processes in support of design, manufacture and certification of aircraft parts.
Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved materials/processes/fabrication and assembly techniques, and associated data-sets.
The position requires an ability to interpret, on a broad basis, the theories and concepts of an engineering specialty, including application of sound material/process principles in the selection of materials and component development with regard to strength, reliability, and corrosion for design optimization.
The position requires cross functional liaison with manufacturing, quality, certification and supply base to resolve design, production, quality or certification issues.
A working knowledge of aircraft certification methodologies (TC/STC) means of configuration control and FAA/regulatory policy related to the position is required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Contributes to successful project completion by participating in material/process specification and data development for the design, manufacture and certification of aircraft equipment, installations and modifications.
Develops project related data for new or improved materials/processes/fabrication and assembly techniques, and associated data including strength allowables, or other statistical based properties with coordinated regulatory approval.
Assesses industry trends and opportunities for new technologies and implements investigative research and development initiatives to advance competitive designs.
Assist in the resolution of technical issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
Coordinates project activities with other operating or engineering units to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion.
Reviews project-related documentation, including customer/supplier material and process specifications, design data and qualification/substantiation data to ensure its accuracy.
Participates in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations.
Assists in determining project objectives to contribute to the development of a comprehensive project design.

Education &/or Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university; and minimum eight years aerospace related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Experience with aerospace composite design, manufacturing, and flammability requirements is highly desirable.
Language Skills:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, associates, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning ability:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
