Writer, Technical III
SUMMARY
Develops, writes, and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts and coordinates the preparation of a wide variety of technical publications and product support literature.
Develops source material; consults engineering and technical staff and coordinates the preparation of required illustrative materials.
Directs activities and edits work of lower-level Technical Writers for conformance to publication standards and specifications.
Arranges for support from outside sources and vendors as appropriate.
Performs other related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to nonexempt personnel.
JOB COMPLEXITY
Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; and eight-to-twelve years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
